They served our country with strength and sacrifice—now, it’s our turn to serve them.
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our Women Veterans Program at The Healing Place’s Women’s Campus. This program, created in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, extends our commitment to supporting those who have served our country. Specifically designed for displaced or homeless women veterans facing the challenges of addiction, this initiative offers 12 dedicated beds, a range of resources, and a supportive community to help these courageous women on their journey to recovery. By honoring their service and providing a path to healing, we aim to empower them to reclaim their lives with dignity and hope.
Billie Jo Powell, an alumna of The Healing Place program and current staff member, shared her perspective on the impact of this initiative. After joining the Navy straight out of high school in 2001, Billie Jo served until 2005. “My alcoholism took play while I was in the Navy. It was everywhere, and it just got out of hand,” she recalled.
Reflecting on the Women Veterans Program, she emphasized the importance of providing resources and a sense of community for women veterans. “I think it’s going to open up doors for veteran women to know that there is a place they can go to get help, to get resources, to be able to live in sobriety, and to know that they’re not alone.”
This program is an extension of our Men’s Veterans Program, which began in 2018. The men’s program, which offers 82 beds, is divided into three areas: clinical treatment, low-demand services, and a 90-day program. It provides essentials like food, clothing, and shelter, as well as comprehensive recovery resources, including case management, Twelve Step meetings, group sessions, peer support specialists, and program clinicians (CADCs). The ultimate goal is to help veterans achieve affordable, safe, and stable housing while building a strong foundation for long-term recovery.
With the addition of the Women Veterans Program, we are proud to expand our mission to honor and support even more of the brave individuals who have served our country. Together, we can provide a path to connection and transformation for women veterans as they rebuild their lives.
